The following obituary for Mrs. Addie E. (Little)
Edgerton appeared in the Coldwater
Republican on Tuesday, November 6, 1894 (transcript courtesy of Diane Hosler):
“Mrs. L. H. Edgerton aged 43 years died of cancer Sunday
evening at 8 oclock at her home on East
Washington Street. She had been ill for more than one and
one-half years, the nature of her disease making all medical aid
impossible. The funeral services will
be held at the residence tomorrow morning, Rev. Wm. Denman officiating, and
the remains interred at Oak Grove Cemetary.
Miss Addie Little was born in Oren N.Y. Oct 8 1851. In 1857 with her parents she moved to Gilead, this county, residing there until 1868, when
she returned to N.Y. June 30, 1870 she
was united in marriage with L. H. Edgerton.
They came to Coldwater in 1872, and this city has since been their
home. To them were born one daughter,
Mrs. Elmer Wood, who with her husband survives her.
While a quiet retiring woman, Mrs. Edgerton had a large
circle of friends. She had been a
member of the Methodist Church for 29 years and was a member of the Coldwater Methodist Church
at the time of her death.”
The following obituary was published in the Weekly Courier (Coldwater, Michigan)
on Saturday, November 10, 1894 (transcript courtesy of Diane Hosler):
“After a long illness of cancer, Addie, wife of Alderman L.
H. Edgerton, passed to her final rest at their home on East Washington Street last Sunday
evening. Born Oct 8, 1851 in Oran N.Y. she came with
her parents Mr. and Mrs. Little to Gilead in
1857 where they resided until 1868, the family then returning to N.Y. where
she was married to Mr. Edgerton in 1870 coming to Coldwater to reside two
years later. In all of the relations
of wife, mother, sister and neighbor she was most lovely and her influence
for good went far beyond her own family circle. In her death, the Methodist church of which
she was a member nearly 30 years loses an ernest worker and devoted Christian
lady, and the husband and daughter a faithful wife and mother. Besides her husband, she leaves one daughter
Mrs. Elmer D. Wood, her mother Mrs. L. A. Edgerton, a brother Fred Little of
Freeport Illinois. The funeral was
held Wednesday morning Rev. Wm. Denman conducting the services.”
The following marriage announcement appeared in
the Weekly Courier (Coldwater,
Michigan) on Friday, April 16, 1897, pg. 2 (transcript courtesy of Diane Hosler):
“Mrs. Andrew Kerr went to Chicago last Wednesday to attend the
wedding of L. H. Edgerton and Miss Emma Perkins which occurred last evening
at 8 oclock. Mr. and Mrs. Edgerton
will remain with his brother-in-law over Sunday, returning to this city the
first of next week. The bride is an
accomplished lady, a sister of Mrs. Kerr, and her many friends will be
pleased to learn that Coldwater will hereafter be her home.”
