The following obituary for Lila May Edgerton was published in The Republican (Caruthersville, Missouri) on Thursday, September 4, 1958:

 

“Funeral services will be held Friday morning, September 5, at the Methodist Church in this city for Miss Lila May Edgerton of East Eighth Street, with the Rev. Paul Currie, pastor of the Presbyterian Church conducting the services.

 

Miss Edgerton died Wednesday morning, September 3, at 5:30, at the Baptist Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., where her condition has been critical for the past two weeks.

 

She was born January 29, 1906 in Gas City, Kansas, the daughter of L.D. Edgerton and the late Mrs. Edgerton.  The family moved to Caruthersville from Deering in 1921.  She attended high school here and was a member of the graduating Class of 1924.

 

She was employed at the Pemiscot County Welfare Office, where she had worked for a number of years.

 

She was a member of the Eastwood Memorial Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by her father, L. D. Edgerton, Caruthersville; one brother, G. D. Edgerton, Caruthersville; and two sisters, Miss Rennie Edgerton, Caruthersville, and Mrs. Everett McDowell, Macon, Ga.  Also surviving are two nieces and two nephews.

 

Interment will be in Little Prairie Cemetery with LaForge service.”
