“Luther Edgerton, Jr., aged 18 of Ohio” enlisted on September 16, 1861 as a private in the L Company; 1st Cavalry Regiment of Ohio. He died in service on May 24, 1862, probably in Kentucky or Mississippi, where his company was engaged at that time. (see Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio (1886))
