Maremus G. Edgerton was born in Fullerville, New York on December 13, 1831.  He was the only son of Charles Goodrich Edgerton and Lemira Fuller.  Maremus was raised in Fullerville (aka “Fowler”), and resided there for most of his life.  Like his father, he made his living as farmer.  He was never married.

 

The household of Maremus G. Edgerton was recorded in the 1880 Federal Census of Fullerville, St. Lawrence County, New York (pg. 97; dwelling #130; family #135; enum. June 21, 1900), as follows:

At the time of the 1900 Federal Census, Maremus G. Edgerton was residing in Fowler, St. Lawrence County, New York.  He was recorded there as a “boarder” in the household of Daniel Fuller (pg. 211; dwelling #250; family #250; enum. June 26, 1900), and was enumerated as “Maremus Edgerton, farmer, aged 68, single, b. December 1831 in New York, father and mother both born in New York.”

 

Maremus G. Edgerton died at Governeur, St. Lawrence County, New York on January 26, 1910.  A copy of his death certificate was filed with the New York State Department of Health (year 1910; certificate #4147).

 

The following obituary for Maremus Gilbert Edgerton was published in the Watertown Daily Times on Thursday, January 27, 1910:

 

“Maremus Edgerton

 

Gouvernour, Jan. 27 – Maremus Edgerton, 78 years old, a native and almost a lifelong resident of the town of Fowler, died yesterday after a long period of ill health at the farm house of John S. Leach near this village of hemorrhage of the brain.  Mr. Edgerton had resided at the home of Mr. Leach for the past three years, and is survived by few if any relatives.  The funeral services will be conducted from the Fullerville church tomorrow afternoon by Rev. James A. Dickson of this village, and interment will be made in the Fullerville cemetery.”

 

The following obituary for Maremus Gilbert Edgerton was published in The Syracuse Herald on Friday, January 28, 1910:

 

“Death of Maremus G. Edgerton

 

Gouverneur, Jan. 28 – Maremus Guilbert Edgerton, aged 78 years, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Leach, who lives on Scotch settlement road on Wednesday.  Mr. Edgerton was born in Fullerville and was a life-long resident of this section and for the last three years had been living with Mr. and Mrs. Leach.  The funeral services were held at the Leach home to-day, the Rev. Mr. James Dickson officiating.”
