Marius Edgerton was born at Columbia, New
York on September 13, 1815, the eldest son of
Daniel and Jemima (Foster) Edgerton. During
his childhood, the family removed to Antwerp
and from there to Martinsburg and finally to Ava, in northern Oneida County. Marius resided in Ava the remainder of his
life. Like his father and brothers, he
earned his livelihood as a farmer.
Marius was married to Polly
B. Fanning, daughter of Stanton and Irene (Adams) Fanning of Boonville, New
York. According to census and burial
records, Polly was born circa 1818.
There is no record of any children born to Marius and Polly (Fanning)
Edgerton.

Marius Edgerton died at Ava, New York
on November 2, 1867, aged 52 years. He
was buried at the Ava
Corners Cemetery
beside his wife, Polly. Their graves
are marked with a shared tombstone. The following obituary notice was printed
in the Roman Citizen on Friday, November 8, 1867:
“DEATHS… In Ava,
New York, on November 2, 1867,
of consumption, Marius Edgerton, in the 53d year of his age. Mr. Edgerton had resided in Ava more than
thirty years, and was esteemed as an upright man and a good citizen by all
who knew him. A numerous circle of
brothers and sisters and an aged father and mother lament his departure.”
