Martin Edgerton was married (probably circa 1831-32 in Henrietta, New York) to Nancy Deming, daughter of Titus and Sybil (Jeffords) Deming.  Nancy was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts on September 1, 1799.  Martin and Nancy Edgerton had three daughters – Lucy R., Harriet, and Elizabeth A.

Soon after this census, Martin’s eldest daughter, Lucy, and her husband, Charles Miner, removed west to Watson Township, Allegan County, Michigan, where Charles had grown up and where numerous family members still resided.  Lucy’s uncle, Samuel Edgerton, had previously settled in Watson Township (c. 1840-1850), and many members of this extended family are buried at the Miner Cemetery in Watson Township.  The second daughter, Harriet, was married to A. Ward Harrington and resided in Royalton, New York.  The youngest daughter, Elizabeth (“Betsey”), was married at Youngstown, New York on June 30, 1864 to Henry R. Tryon.

Martin Edgerton’s second wife was Charity F. Mackie, daughter of William and Sarah (Bodfish) Mackie of Wareham, Massachusetts.  Martin and Charity were married at Boston, Massachusetts on June 12, 1861.

The household of Martin Edgerton was recorded in the 1870 Federal Census of Hartland, Niagara County, New York (pg. 34; dwelling #94; family #95; enum. July 15, 1870), as follows:

At the time of this enumeration, Martin was residing next to his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Henry Tryon, whose family was recorded directly afterwards on the Hartland census roll (dwelling #95; family #96).

Martin Edgerton Jr. died at Hartland, New York on August 20, 1872.  He was buried at Orangeport Union Cemetery in Lockport, New York, where his parents and first wife were previously interred.

At the time of the 1880 Federal Census, Martin’s widow, “Charity F. Edgerton”, was recorded residing with her younger brother, William H. Mackie, in Wareham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts (pg. 94).  Mrs. Charity (Mackie) Edgerton died at Taunton, Massachusetts on August 24, 1896.  According to the record of her death (Taunton VR 464:689), she was the widow of Martin Edgerton, aged 72 years, born at Wareham, Massachusetts, the daughter of William Mackie (b. Wareham) and Sarah Bodfish (b. Barnstable).
