Morgan Brown Edgerton was born at Little Rock, Arkansas in November 24, 1872, the younger of two sons of Rollin Augustus and Emma A. (Downes) Edgerton. Morgan was raised in Little Rock and later went on to study Enginering at Cornell University in New York. After graduation, he removed to Chicago, Illinois and went to work for the International Harvestor Company.

Morgan Brown Edgerton was married on June 15, 1898 at Chicago, Illinois to Mary Florence Poggi, daughter of Charles and Olive Poggi, with whom he had three sons – Morgan Rollin, Bradford Poggi and Kenneth, all born in Chicago.
