Olcott Edgerton was born September 5, 1836 at Vernon, Connecticut, the son of Edwin and Celia Ann (Warren) Edgerton.  He had a twin brother, Talcott.

Olcott Edgerton was raised in Vernon, Connecticut.  At the time of the 1850 Federal Census of Vernon, he was enumerated in the household of his father, Edwin, as well in the neighboring household of “Geo. Rupert”.  In the latter enumeration (dwelling #10; family #11), he was listed as “Olcott Edgerton, aged 14, b. Connecticut.”

Olcott’s parent’s were divorced in 1857 and his mother was subsequently remarried to John C. Benton and removed with him and her younger children to Monson, Massachusetts.  It was presumably at this time that Olcott also left his homestate and settled in Worcester County, Massachusetts.

Olcott was married at Webster, Massachusetts on March 15, 1860 to Harriet M. Brown, daughter of Willard and Sarah (Emerson) Brown of Webster.  Following their marriage, Olcott and Harriet resided briefly in Webster but soon after settled in Worcester City, where they resided for the majority of their lives.  They had one son, Charles Henry, born at Webster on January 20, 1869.

At the time of the 1860 Federal Census, Olcott Edgerton and his wife, Harriet, were residing in Stafford, Tolland County, Connecticut in the household of Lemuel and Abigail Dunlap. (pg. 748; dwelling #162; family #188; enum. June 12, 1860)  They were enumerated as follows:

Edgerton” applied for a Widow’s Pension on May 7, 1917 (see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #995795, Certificate #786941; and Application #1100433, Certificate #828589).
