Polly Edgerton, daughter of Martin and Anne (Ellis) Edgerton.

Polly Edgerton was born at Norwich, Connecticut on August 16, 1803, the only daughter of Martin Edgerton Sr. and Anne Ellis.  During her childhood, Polly’s family removed from Connecticut and settled in Henrietta, Monroe County, New York.

Polly Edgerton was married on November 17, 1825 at Henrietta, New York to Henry Howard Corbin, son of Deacon Penuel and Hannah (Howard) Corbin of Woodstock, Connecticut.  Henry was born in Woodstock on November 16, 1800.  The following marriage announcement was published in the Rochester Telegraph on Tuesday, November 22, 1825:

“MARRIED – At Henrietta, on the 17th inst. by the Rev. Mr. Kendrick, Mr. Henry H. Corbin, to Miss Polly H. Edgerton, daughter of Capt. Martin Edgerton.”

The same announcement was published in the Monroe Republican on Tuesday, November 29, 1825.

Henry and Polly (Edgerton) Corbin had four children:  Francis Henry Howard, Martin L., Elizabeth L. and Martha A.  The family resided in Gates, Monroe County, New York and Royalton, Niagara County, New York.

Mrs. Polly (Edgerton) Corbin died at Orangeport, New York on March 10, 1842 and was buried at Orangeport Union Cemetery in Lockport Township, New York.  Her husband, Henry Corbin, was subsequently remarried to his wife’s first cousin, Harriet E. Ellis (daughter of William Ellis Jr. and Polly Lathrop).  Henry had two more children by his second wife – a daughter, Harriet Emeline, and a son, John Newton.

Polly was mentioned in the will of her father, Martin Edgerton (dated February 28, 1854), as “Polly Corbin my Daughter (deceased)”.  Polly’s heirs were referred to in the will but not mentioned by name.  Polly’s husband, Henry H. Corbin, was named as joint executor of the will.

Henry Howard Corbin died at Batavia, New York on May 31, 1855.  He was buried at the Daw’s Corners Cemetery, in Batavia, where his gravestone records his age at death as 54 years, 6 months.
