Mrs. Mary (Harrison) Edgerton died at Delphi Falls (Pompey Township), Onondaga County, New York on January 2, 1884.  The following obituary was published in The De Ruyter New Era on Thursday, January 10, 1884:

“DELPHI…  Mrs. Mary Edgerton, wife of Reuben Edgerton, died suddenly of heart disease, Wednesday, Jan. 2d, aged 66 years.  She had been in poor health for a long time; yet had been able to be about the house.  She died while seated in a chair conversing with the family.  The funeral services were held at the house Friday at 2 p.m.  The Rev. C. B. Corning officiated.  The husband and family have the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends.”

Shortly after the death of his wife, Reuben Edgerton removed west with his family to Meckling, Clay County, South Dakota.

Reuben Edgerton died at Meckling, South Dakota on April 3, 1887.  The following obituary was published in The Daily Courier (Syracuse, New York) on Wednesday, April 13, 1887:

“DELPHI – Reuben Edgerton died of apoplexy at Meckin [sic], Clay county, Dakota on Sunday, April 3, 1887.  Mr. Edgerton was formerly a resident of Delphi, having resided here many years.  He moved to Dakota three years ago last spring, and has resided there since.  His death brings sadness to many of his old neighbors in Delphi and vicinity, who highly respected Mr. Edgerton and regretted very much that he should in his old age be called upon to leave his old house and seek one among strangers.”

An additional item noting his death appeared in The Syracuse Standard on Tuesday, April 12, 1887:

DELPHI… W. O. Perry received last week a letter from his son John, at Meckling, Dakota, saying that Reuben Edgerton died on Sunday, April 3.  He was an old resident of this place and was about 76 years of age.  He moved from Delphi three years ago.”

A notice of Reuben’s death was also published in the Utica Weekly Herald on Tuesday, May 3, 1887.
