Sarah (“Sally”) Edgerton was born in Bozrah, Connecticut circa 1775, the eldest daughter of William and Lucy (Birchard) Edgerton.  She was raised in Bozrah and resided there for the entirety of her life.  She was never married.

On April 15, 1812, Sarah joined with her mother, “Lucy Edgerton”, and siblings, “William Edgerton…Polly Edgerton, Fanny Edgerton all of Bozrah in New London County & State of Connecticut and Lucy Macknell & Thomas Macknell of Ellington County of Tolland in said State...” in selling property in Bozrah to Gurdon Meach (Bozrah LR 3:287-9).

Sarah Edgerton was a member of the Bozrah Congregational Church.  She was admitted to the Church on July 3, 1823 (ChR 4:20), and her death was later recorded at the Church (ChR 4:81).

The household of Sally Edgerton was recorded in the 1830 Federal Census of Bozrah, New London County, Conencticut (pg. 271), with the following enumeration:

1 female “of 50 and under 60”  (Sally); and,

1 female “of 40 and under 50”  (sister Fanny).

Sally Edgerton died at Bozrah, Connecticut on June 2, 1841, “aged 66 years”, as recorded at the Bozrah Congregational Church (ChR 4:81).  Sally was buried at the Johnson Cemetery in Bozrah.  Her gravestone records her name as “Sarah Edgerton” and reports that she died “June 2, 1841, aged 66 yrs”.

On June 8, 1841, Sally’s brother, William Edgerton, petitioned the Norwich Probate Court for letters of administration on her estate.  The petition read as follows:

“John Hyde Esq Judge of Probate District of Norwich

As My sister Sally Edgerton died in Bozrah a few days ago & left some property it will be necessary to have administration taken in order to settle the Estate it is probably about two hundred dollars I with R. Morgan [-?-] appointed Administrator.

Norwich June 8 1841

William Edgerton”

On June 10, 1841, “Rosewell Morgan & William Edgerton both of Norwich” executed a bond of administration in the amount of five hundred dollars, and they subsequently made a number of returns to the Probate Court.  Among these were the following:

An inventory of the estate taken on June 12, 1841 by Daniel Merrick and Samuel A. Gager, which totaled $385.80.

A distribution of the “personal estate of Miss Sally Edgerton”, dated January 7, 1842, to “Wm Edgerton brother of sd Sally decd” and to “Mary McNall sister of sd Sally decd”.

A second distribution of the “personal estate of Miss Sally Edgerton”, also dated January 7, 1842, to “Wm McNall son of Lucy McNall” and to “Betsey McNall daughter of Lucy McNall said Lucy being Sister of said Sally decd”.

An administration account of Rosewell Morgan, submitted to the Court on January 22, 1842, showing a balance on the estate of $186.00.

The probate records on the estate of Sally Edgerton were filed with the Norwich Probate District; Book 16, pp. 396, 428 – 429 (Probate Packet #3595).
