Thompson Julius Edgerton, son of Jonathan Thompson and Phebe (Sayles) Edgerton.
Emily Eliza Percival, daughter of Stephen and Rebecca (Howey) Percival.

Thompson Julius Edgerton was born at Lincoln,
Vermont on April 10, 1824, the son of Jonathan Thompson and Phebe (Sayles)
Edgerton. He was raised in Lincoln and
Starksboro, Vermont and made his living as farmer and physician. Thompson J. Edgerton was married to Emily Eliza
Percival, daughter of Stephen and Rebecca (Howey) Percival of Stowe,
Vermont. Thompson and Emily had two
children: a son, Frank Percival and a
daughter, Eva Percival.
Coincidentally, both children shared the same birthday, February
14th. The family resided first in
Huntington, Vermont, later removing to Wallingford, Vermont, where Thompson’s
father, Jonathan T. Edgerton, was born and raised. Thompson resided in Wallingford for the
remainder of his adult life, with the exception of a few years circa 1870 in
the state of Wisconsin. The household of Thompson J. Edgerton was recorded
in the 1860
Federal Census of Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont (pg. 43; dwelling
#412, family #412; enum. June 22, 1860), as follows:
In the early 1860’s, Thompson Julius Edgerton
attended the University of Vermont.
His name was included in the list of “Medical Students 1863” published
in A Catalogue of the Officers and Students
of the University of Vermont for the Academic Year 1863-4 (Burlington
Free Press, Burlington, Vermont). His
residence was given as Vermont and his preceptor was J. S. Macon, M.D. At the time of the 1870 Federal
Census, Thompson J. Edgerton and his family were residing in Ellington,
Outagamie County, Wisconsin. The
household (pg. 457; dwelling #16, family #15; enum. June 2, 1870), was
enumerated as follows:
Thompson Julius Edgerton
died at Wallingford, Vermont on February 12, 1875. According to his death record (Wallingford
Vital Records, Book II, pg. 57, #4), Thompson had died in district 4 and was
aged 51 years [sic], 10 months, 2 days, a doctor, born at Huntington, Vt, the
son of “Jonth & Phebe S. Edgerton”.
Thompson J. Edgerton was buried at West Hill Cemetery in Wallingford. The household of Mrs. Emily Edgerton was recorded
in the 1880
Federal Census of South Wallingford (Wallingford Township), Rutland
County, Vermont (pg. 460; dwelling #338; family #364; enum. June 17-18,
1880), as follows:
Emily’s son, Frank Percival Edgerton, was
enumerated with his wife as the next household on this census roll. At the time of the 1900 Federal
Census, Mrs. Emily (Percival) Edgerton was enumerated in the household of
her widowed daughter, Eva (Edgerton) Ames, in Wallingford, Rutland County,
Vermont (dwelling #183; family #181; enum. June 12, 1900). She was enumerated as “Emily Edgerton, mother,
b. Sept. 1824, aged 75, b. in New York, both parents b. in New York”. According to this enumeration, Emily was
