Walter and his wife, Elizabeth, were divorced sometime circa 1920 – 1923.  Mrs. Elizabeth (Travis) Edgerton was remarried at Detroit, Michigan on December 12, 1923 to George Leville Nixon of Flint.  Elizabeth and her two youngest daughters were recorded with George in the 1930 Federal Census of Flint, Genesee County, Michigan (dwelling #483; family #492; enum. April 23, 1930).  The household was enumerated as follows:

Walter Clarence Edgerton died at Flint, Michigan on January 23, 1930 and was buried at Gracelawn Cemetery.  The following obituary was published in the Flint Journal on January 25, 1930 (transcript courtesy of Diane Hosler):

 

“Edgerton – Walter C. Edgerton, 57 years old, died at his home, 1137 Lincoln-av, Thursday of a complication of diseases after a brief illness.  He was born in St. Clare-twp, Mich., Oct 2, 1872, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Edgerton, and came to Flint 15 years ago from Reece, Mich.  He was a member of the First Free Methodist church here.  He leaves four daughters, Mrs. Gladys Gould of Rankin, Mich., Dorothy M. Edgerton of Flint, and Grace and Marion Edgerton of Detroit;  two sons, Murl of Chicago and Russell of San Antonio, Tex., three sisters, Mrs. Carole E King of Flint, Mrs. Emily E. Warner of Deford, Mich., and Mrs. Amy E. Gekeler of Flint; three brothers, George of Detroit, Myron of Petoskey and Burton of Allentown, Mich.; and two grandchildren.”
