“Irving W.” Edgerton, “of Hanover, Illinois” enlisted on August 13, 1862 for service in the Union Army. He served as a private in F Company; 96th Illinois Infantry Regiment, but fought in only one battle -- at Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 22, 1862. Washington died in Nashville, Tennesee on March 12, 1863. His remains were later returned home for burial at the family plot in Edgerton Cemetery.
