Washington Irving Edgerton, son of Asher and Julia Ann (Deal) Edgerton.

“Irving W.” Edgerton, “of Hanover, Illinois” enlisted on August 13, 1862 for service in the Union Army.  He served as a private in F Company; 96th Illinois Infantry Regiment, but fought in only one battle -- at Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 22, 1862.  Washington died in Nashville, Tennesee on March 12, 1863.  His remains were later returned home for burial at the family plot in Edgerton Cemetery.  (see Illinois: Roster of Officers and Enlisted Men, 1900)
