The following biography of Willis C. Edgerton is
excerpted from Our County and its
People: A Memorial History of Tioga County, New York (Leroy W. Kingman,
ed.; Elmira, New York: W. A. Fergusson & Co.;pp. 689-690): “WILLIS C. EDGERTON, son of Caleb and Angelica (Lamberton) Edgerton, was born in Granby, Conn., on September 20, 1850. Coming to Waverly in 1869 he learned the blacksmith’s trade, married Alice, daughter of Gideon and Nancy (Brown) Cassady, in 1872, and located at Lockwood as a blacksmith and dealer in agricultural implements. In addition to these he conducts a meat market and hardware store. Mr. Edgerton is prominent in social work, is a Royal Arch Mason, and is district deputy of the Odd Fellows’ fraternity in Tioga county. He has two children, Lillian M. and Olive A.
