According to the above census record, Mary was the
mother of two children, both of whom were still living. [This was incorrect; Mary had actually had
three children, the eldest of whom had died one day old.] Willis’ occupation was listed as “farmer”,
and Claude was noted as “at school”.
At the time of this census, the family was residing adjacent to
Willis’ parents, Mrs. Mary E. (Bailey) Edgerton died at MOTHER MARY E. WIFE OF W. S. EDGERTON On the front side of the footstone is the following
inscription for Willis and Mary’s eldest child, who had died one day old: INFANT DAUGHTER OF W. S. & M. E. EDGERTON The death of this infant daughter on March 2,
1889, aged one day, was registered in the
Cuyahoga County Probate Court Record of Deaths, 1867 – 1890 (Volume 3,
pg. 298). The household of Willis S. Edgerton was recorded

occupation was listed as “Farmer – General Farm” and Claud was listed as a
“Farm Laborer – Home Farm”. The family
