Willis Edgerton was born at West Granby, Connecticut circa 1812, one of the younger sons of Jacob and Nancy (Lee) Edgerton.  He was raised in West Granby and resided there the entirety of his life.

Willis Edgerton was married on May 18, 1836 at North Canton, Connecticut to Luna Case, daughter of Philetus and Lucinda (Reed) Case of North Canton.  Willis and Luna had three children:  Laurett Louisa, who died in infancy; Jarvis Willis, who married Emerett Martha Bacon; and Laura Etta, who married Jude Bacon.

The household of Willis Edgerton was enumerated in the 1840 Federal Census of Granby, Hartford County, Connecticut (pg. 119), as follows:

1 male “20 – 30”  (Willis);

1 male “under 5”  (son Jarvis); and,

1 female “20 – 30”  (wife Luna).

Willis Edgerton died of consumption on September 13, 1842, presumably at West Granby, Connecticut.  A notice of his death was published in The Hartford Times on October 15, 1842, noting his age as “30 years”.  Willis was buried at the West Granby Cemetery.  His death was entered in the register of the “West Granby Burying-Ground” (pg. 14, no. 282), as follows:

“1842...Sep 13...Willis Edgerton...consumption...[age] 30...[lot] 19”

Mrs. Luna (Case) Edgerton was remarried on August 30, 1846 at Canton, Connecticut to William Beach (Canton VR 35).  The marriage was also recorded at the Canton Congregational Church (ChR 2:149).  Luna lived another five decades, dying at Forestville, Connecticut on October 27, 1901.  She was buried beside her second husband at East Cemetery in Bristol, Connecticut.

At the time of the 1850 Federal Census, Willis and Luna’s two surviving children, Jarvis and Laura Etta, were recorded in the household of their maternal grandfather, Philetus Case, in Canton, Hartford County, Connecticut (pg. 310; dwelling #284; family #295; enum. September 10, 1850); they were enumerated respectively as “Jarvis Edgerton, aged 11, b. in Connecticut” and Lauretta [Edgerton], aged 9, b. in Connecticut”.  At the time of the 1860 Federal Census, Jarvis and Laura were recorded in the household of their uncle, Morgan Case, in Canton, Hartford County, Connecticut (dwelling #17; family #17; enum. June 15, 1860); they were enumerated respectively as “Jarvis Edgerton, aged 21, laborer, b. in Connecticut” and “Laura E. Edgerton, aged 20, domestic, b. in Connecticut”.
