He emigrated to Pennsylvania in the United States of America prior to 3 September 1881 at age 20-23. In the time between 1850-1900 Dalsland experienced a wave of emigration, mainly small scale farmers trying to flee poverty and famine. The number of people leaving Dalsland for Norway or America was estimated at 64,000. He became a United States citizen on 27 May 1885. He moved to Ashland, Wisconsin in 1887. He died on the farm at Andersonville, Sanborn Avenue, Ashland, Wisconsin in 1914 at age 56 years. 30 They ran a Swedish boarding house for lumberjacks at 609 St. Clair Street, Ashland, Wisconsin.38
