From , Hancock Co, Ga, came to Perry Co. in 1817 OR 1818 and settled in the place now known as the W.
M. Eiland place. His home stood in the field across the road from where the present road is and where
Mrs. Janis B. Eiland and daugher now live (Feb 2000).
Lived only a short time after coming to
AL. Asa Absalom Eiland married Virginia Moffett in Georgia. She was known as Jincy. He was always
in very poor health. They moved into what is now Alabama about 1818 and lived near Marion , Al in a
community known today as Sprott. He died in 1820 and Jincy lived on there until her death. Two of the
sons, Ovid Celedon and Dr. Oliver Goldsmith Eiland were very active in the establishing of Judson College,
Alabama Baptist College for Women. Both served on the first Board of Trustees. Many of the family moved
to Mississippi and others still farther west after the Civil War. Asa and Jincy are buried in unmarked,
