Lona was born March
3, 1924 in the Gay Hill Community. She was the 5th child of the family of Calvin and Freda Eiland.
She attended Gay Hill School for eight terms, then three High School years in Rockdale. Lona was on
the volleyball team in Rockdale. She, her sister Margaret Lee, Bonnie Doss, and Linda Brudda played
on the Rockdale team from Gay Hill. The community was very proud of these girls. Lona graduated from
Rockdale High School in 1941. She worked for Consolidated Aircraft in Fort Worth for seven years. 1943-1949.
married Edward A. Whiteley on January 4, 1950. To his union four sons were born, Patrick, Michael,
Edward and Dick. Edward was born in Milam Co. and grew up here. He also graduated from Rockdale High
School. While serving in the army he served three tours of duty in Germany. They are now living in
Killeen. They retired after serving 20 years in 1967. Edward is now working for the Civil Service
in Ft. Hood.

Services for Lona Marie Whiteley, 80, of Killeen will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips
& Luckey Co. Inc. in Rockdale with Dr. Joe Rich officiating. Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery
Mrs. Whiteley died March 1, 2005, in Temple. She was born March 3, 1924, in Rockdale,
where she was raised and educated, graduating from Rockdale High School. Mrs. Whiteley was a homemaker,
who worked at Consolidated Aircraft in Fort Worth as a metallurgist during the 1940s.
a member of the Killeen-Cove-Hood Special Olympics. Mrs. Whiteley had lived in Killeen for 38 years
and was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Michael A. Whiteley
and Dick Whiteley, both of Killeen, Edward T. Whiteley of Atlanta, Ga, and Patrick L. Whiteley of Cedar
Hill; two brothers, Elmer Eiland of Ennis and Elbert Eiland of Taylor; two sisters, Eutera Talley of
Rockdale and Lois Wilkins of Gause; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Whiteley in 1991; her parents, Calvin and Freda Eiland;
and two sisters, Thelmer Staffelbach and Margaret Lee Gifford.
The family will receive visitors
from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
