Robbie Zack Folmar
Birth: Feb. 18, 1895, Pike County, Alabama, USA
Death: May 7, 1978, Opp, Covington County, Alabama, USA

Robbie Zack Folmar was born in the Elam-Rodgers community near Goshen, Pike County, Alabama, the only son of William Franklin Folmar and Nancy Jane Kelley. Robbie Folmar married Nettie Lou Eiland, a little girl he grew up with who lived across the street from him in Bullock, Crenshaw County, Alabama. They were married 12-29-1914 at Bullock.

Robbie and Nettie farmed while their children were growing up. They lived in the Straughn Community of Covington County. During World War II, they moved to Opp and ran the bus station in downtown Opp located across the street from the U.S. Post Office. They then opened a grocery store and started a rolling store route with son Verlon as a partner. As the grocery store business grew Robbie sold the rolling store in order to help Nettie run the main store.

But Robbie got cabin fever in the grocery store and took a job driving a rolling store for Boutwell Grocery in Opp. Robbie drove the store on a different route each day during the week where he covered most of Covington County.
He was probably the best known man in the county during this period, as people really liked the convenience of having the rolling store come by their homes. During summer
time when school was out, Robbie would take grandchildren with him on his route. I can personally assert that it was a wonderful experience riding with my grandfather on these
occasions.

Robbie Zack Folmar died 5-7-1978 after being injured in an automobile accident.
