About J D Caffey:
Rockdale Reporter, Thur., 5 July 2001 Funeral services for J.D. Caffey, 80, were held Tuesday, July
3, 2001 at 10 a.m. from the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Paul Kethley of St.
John's United Methodist Church and Rev. Doug Springer of Rockdale Full Gospel Church officiating. Burial
followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. He died Saturday, June 30, 2001 in the Richards Memorial
Hospital.
Mr. Caffey, a Rockdale resident for the past 22 years, was born in the Salty Community
to Nick and Lucy (Eiland) Caffey. He worked 25 years with the Tx Highway Dept. in Houston and Cameron
in the Maintenance Dept., retiring in Cameron in 1983. Mr. Caffey and Margaret Fulcher were married
Jan. 3, 1946 in Rockdale. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Rockdale VFW
Post 6525. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He enjoyed playing dominos and bowling
and visiting at McVoy's Feed Store.
Mr. Caffey was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials
may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church OR charity of choice. Surviving are: Wife, Margaret
Caffey of Rockdale; three sisters, Snowdie Green of Austin, Lois Riley of Burleson and Nubbie Christian
of Arlington; three sisters-in-law, Billye Cannon of San Marcos, Irene Hester of Rockdale and Ruby Fulcher
of Austin. Pallbearers were Lenza Caffey Jr., Clyde Caffey, Wayne Caffey, Clifford Caffey, John Robert
Caffey, Rodney Green, Gary Green and James Caffey. Honorary pallbearers were Rockdale VFW: Otto Brogger,
Truman Haupt, Roland Lawson, George Young Jr., Don Goldman, Pete Lumpkins, Charles Diver and Ryndal
Brown.
From the book "Matchless Milam", "He joined the Air Force in 1942 and was a member
of the 8th Air Force -- serving most of his time in the European Theater of operations. He was discharged
from the miltary in December 1945 and he and Margaret married at his homecoming in January 1946"
