Rockdale Reporter, Thur., 18 May 2000 Funeral services for Bessie Caffey Sanders, 99, were held at
10 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2000 in Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with burial following in
Salty Cemetery. Dr. Greg Nichols and Minister O.E. Davidson officiated.
Mrs. Sanders died Wednesday,
May 10 in the Renaissance Villa Nursing Home. She was a Rockdale resident for the past 14 years, having
lived previously in the Tanglewood community.
She was born June 6, 1900 in Milam County to Richard
L. and Georgia Ann (Allison) Rolan. She was married to James A. Caffey for 34 years until his death.
She later married James L. Sanders on Aug. 9, 1985 in Missouri City. Mrs. Sanders was a member of the
Church of Christ. She received a certificate of recognition from State Rep. Dan KubiAr for her ?Uncle
Sam? mailbox. Mrs. Sanders enjoyed selling Avon products for many years and received the ?high achievement?
award. Her hobbies included yard work, antiques, sewing and arts and crafts. Mrs. Sanders also enjoyed
family gatherings and attending church.
Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her first husband,
James A. Caffey on Oct. 12, 1950; by her second husband, James L. Sanders on Dec. 25, 1994; by a son,
Geraldean Caffey on June 29, 1982; and by seven brothers. Survivors include three sons, J.A. Caffey
of Rockdale, O.U. ?Buddy? Caffey of Temple and A.B. Caffey of Houston; a daughter, Novelene Currey of
Rockdale; a brother, L.L. Rolan of Rockdale; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great
great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ricky Caffey, Charles Caffey, Stanley Caffey, Carlton Caffey,
Mike Currey and Daniel Currey. Honorary pallbearers were Porter Young, Sam Summers, Larry Faulkner,
Don Jackson, Jack Bastow and Doug Bell.
