Ace Eiland was born in Gurdon, Ark. in 1925 and
was 83 years old when he peacefully passed away on April 29, 2009 in the Sherman House of Hospice of
the Valley after a brief illness. Ace attended Rice University as well as the University of Illinois.
He loved his country dearly and served that country in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Ace was the recipient
of both the prestigious Navy Golden Wings and Twin Dolphins Awards. He was a member of the Anti-Sub
Squadron as well.
Following his years of Naval Service, Ace continued working for government
defense at General Dynamics where he was a design engineer on the Tomahawk Cruise Missile and later
designed parts for the space program. Ace had many passions in life besides his country. He loved vehicles
of any kind - motorcycles, motor homes, boats, planes and helicopters. He enjoyed the buying, restoring,
and selling of vehicles, as well as driving them.
His love for cars took him to build and race
stock cars as one of the pioneers of what we now know as NASCAR racing. In those early days he raced
alongside Jerry Unser of the Unser racing family. Because of his love of flying, after his military
flying career, he continued flying a variety of his own small aircraft, until a few years ago. Ace
was a very avid tennis player and continued to play four times a week with local tennis buddies until
his recent illness. Ace is survived by ?My Love,? Martha; 11 children and step-children, 24 grandchildren,
and 11 great grandchildren.
