About Betty Joann Cook Meeks:
Betty's Mother's Obituary Virginia E. Meeks, 86, of Chiefland passed away March 6, 2010, at Shands
Hospital in Gainesville. She was born February 12, 1924, in Arkansas. She married Donny N. Meeks
in 1939. They lived in Chiefland where they farmed and she was a school bus driver for 44 years for
the Levy County School Board. Virginia excelled in all that she attempted. Along with quilting and seamstress
talents, she was an excellent cook. Family and friends will not forget the many meals eaten at her table. She
was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chiefland and the Sunshine Disciples. She was also
a member of the Curryville Homemakers Club and the Quilt Club. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden
and spending time with her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years,
Donnie N. Meeks, whom she cherished, three brothers and three sisters and her parents, John and Jennie
Sharp. She is survived by two children, Jack (Darleen) Meeks and Betty (Melvin) Eiland, both of Chiefland;
five grandchildren, Chuck (Rhonda) Cook, Kalyn Gay, Don (Andrea) Meeks, Lynette (Mike) Gregory, Lela
Elmore; three step-grandchildren, Mark (Donna) Eiland, Ricky (Elisha) Eiland, Debbie (Danny) Watson;
ten great-grandchildren, Jody (Nickie) Meeks, Cory (Kelsie) Meeks, Kristen Gregory, Kelsey Gregory,
Kyle Cook, Kasidy Cook, Keri Gay, Kendalyn Gay, Jordan Elmore, Ethan Elmore; and six step-great-grandchildren,
James Eiland, Erin Eiland, Clayton Eiland, Kimber Eiland, Clinton Bullard, Tymberlyn Watson; two great-
great-grandchildren, Landon Meeks, Caiden Meeks; brothers, Billie Ray (Jennie) Sharp of Chiefland and
Bobby (Wanda) Sharp of Gainesville. Funeral services were Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at 11:00 am
at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Chuck Cook and Rev. William E. Knight officiating.
Visitation was held Tuesday, March 9, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment was at Ellzey
Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Chiefland.
