Darrex O'Neil Eiland, 61, of Cordova (Rocky Hollow community), died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 4, at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home with burial at Davis Cemetery in Dora. The Rev. Randy Beck and the Rev. Neil Robinson will officiate. Visitation will be today until service time. New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home will direct . Mr. Eiland was a member of Dora Church of God where he was a Bible scholar and taught Sunday School for the Witness class and Bible classes for over 40 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a military policeman and a member of the Honor Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward O'Neil Eiland and Minnie Taylor Eiland Wilson; brothers, William Eiland, Ray Eiland, Wilburn Eiland, Orien Eiland and Clifton W. Eiland; and sisters, Christine Eiland Taylor Ivey, Elaine Eiland Duke and Olean Eiland Boyd.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jackie Eiland of the Rocky Hollow community; son, Jonathan Eiland of Lackland AFB, Texas; and sisters, Marie Eiland Puckett Dover and Emma Eiland Parrot.
Being a gentle, kind, prince of a man, he also leaves behind a host of loving friends and other family members.
