About Maurene J McClain:
MAURENE J. CONKLE
Port Angeles resident Maurene J. Conkle died March 10, 2006, after a short
illness. She was 91 years old. Born September 2, 1914, in Bruceville, Texas, to Tillie and Bonnie James
McClain, she grew up and lived most of her life in Dallas, Texas.
In August 1932, she went to
work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and remained there until her retirement after 42 years, 10
months and one day of service. Her loyalty and dedication to the telephone company was also reflected
in her family life. She married William (Bill) R. Conkle in 1952 and was widowed in December 1972.
Together they had two daughters. Their family also included his two sons and a daughter from a previous
marriage.
After ``Mamaw'' retired from the telephone company, she grew bored and returned to
work in an industry she always loved -- shoes and clothing. She worked as a salesperson in a major
department store and loved every minute of it. In April 2005, ``Mamaw'' moved to Port Angeles to be
closer to her youngest daughter and her husband. She was an avid reader, a rabid Dallas Cowboys fan
and gifted homemaker. Her tenacious spirit, sense of fairness, forgiving nature and positive attitude
will be greatly missed. Her complete love and faith in God made all these things possible.
Surviving
are her daughter, Susan and husband Merwyn Eiland of Port Angeles; son Edwin and wife Berta Conkle of
Tyler, Texas; sisters Robbie Lee McClain and Bonnie Jean Harkins of Frisco, Texas; brother Glenn Dean
(Jiggs) and wife Virginia McClain of Fort Worth, Texas; and grandchildren, Eric and wife Lucille Conkle
of Garland, Texas, Kevin Conkle of Dallas, Texas, Christine and husband John Timberman of Port Angeles,
Brett and wife Jenifer Eiland of Port Angeles; and Clay and wife Noel Eiland of Dallas, Texas; and
several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Laurel
Land Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 6000 South R.L. Thorton Freeway, Dallas Co, Tx 75232.
