Funeral services for Thomas "Sarge" Eiland, 75, of
Canton, took place Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Eubank Chapel in Canton. Interment followed at Haven
of Memories Memorial Park in Canton.
Mr. Eiland was born Jun 23, 1932, in Hiram Community, Texas
to Knowles Share & Gladys Wester Eiland. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mineola. He
grew up in Oak Cliff, where he attended Adamson High School. He joined the Army & served during the
Korean Conflict. He married Barbara in 1954 re-enlisted in the Army in 1962 and served during the Vietnam
War. After leaving the active duty, he served in the Army Reserve & the National Guard. He served in
the military for a total of 23 years. In 1971 he moved to Canton, where he worked as a car salesman
in several dealerships in the East Texas area. He served as a past Post Commander for the Canton VFW
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Eiland of Canton; son, Steve Eiland & wife Jan of
Canton; daughter, Sheryl Wilburn & husband William of Canton; a brother, Shaw Eiland & wife Linda of
Grand Saline; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Rusty Lockhart, Danny
Shepherd, Rodney Johnson, Mike Housewright, Kenny Reed, Mike Mullins, and Ronnie Stanford.
