About Billy Jay Eiland:

Billy Jay Eiland SNYDER-Billy Jay Eiland, 85, of Snyder, Texas, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Covenant Specialty Hospital in Lubbock, Texas, after a lengthy illness. Services for Mr. Eiland will be held today, May 12, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Colonial Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Mr. Eiland was born on Thursday, Oct. 21, 1926, in Stanton, Texas, to H.H. and Alice (Taylor) Eiland. He married Mary Darnell on Dec. 2, 1963, in Fort Worth, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Eiland, Snyder, Texas; three daughters, Martha Martin and husband Terry of Snyder, Texas, Susan Smith and husband Darty of Austin, Texas, and Carol Trulock and husband Jeff of Snyder, Texas; one son, Jay Eiland and wife Randi of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Hope Veiga and husband Anderson of Fayetteville, N.C., Race and Arden Eiland of Dallas, Texas, Brandon Martin and wife Annie of Midland. Texas, and Tammy Cannon and husband Greg of Lubbock, Texas; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua Veiga of Fayetteville, N.C., Tyler and Drew Martin of Midland, Texas, and Catherine and Martin Cannon of Lubbock, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Jacob Leath Trulock.

While serving in the Navy, Mr. Eiland served on the USS Prarie in WWII. He was also a bank director of West Texas State Bank for 56 years. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason of the Scurry Lodge 706 for 56 years and was also a Shriner. Mr. Eiland served on the Snyder City Council and Snyder School Board.
