by Cecil Little, 1-14-1937, John Callaway, age 76, died in Providence Beat !6, Jan. 10, of Heart Dropsey.
Burial was at Providence Beat 16. The Song, "A Lone Pilgrim" was at his request sung by Riley Robinson
as the body was lowered into the Grave. The aged man had planned his entire funeral service. He is
survived by his Widow, Mrs. Lizzie Callaway, three Sons, Frank, Fred and Spurgeon Callaway. Two Daughters
Mrs. Filey Funderburk of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Arrie Jones of Clanton, One Brother, Gil Callaway of
Montgomery, One Sister, LaFadre Robinson of Verbena. He was born in Coosa County in 1861 and moved
to the area of Providence Beat 16 when he was 2 years old. He died on his 55th wedding Anniversary.
He married Miss Lizzie Bathes Jan. 10, 1882. He was a Blacksmith by trade and worked in Wetumpka and
at Verbena a few years before he returned to Beat 16. He was the Son of Jonathan and Rutha Eiland Callaway.(2)
