William G. Saxton
William G. Saxton, 84, of 808 E. Loomis St., died at 3:30 a.m. today
at Memorial Hospital of Mason County following a six-month illness.
Mr. Saxton was born Feb. 11, 1894 in Eaton County and was married
to the former Miriam Erbaugh on Feb. 9, 1918 in Ludington and she survives.
The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February.
Mr. Saxton came to Mason County as a child and had lived here most of his life.
He was an Army veteran of World War I and had served overseas
in France and Germany. He was in the Third Infantry Division and was a
member of Pershing's Own.
He was a member of the Sugar Ridge Church of the Brethren,
a member of the Harold Snyder Post 30, Disabled American Veterans,
a member of the VFW Post 2409 and a past commander and past district commander.
He had worked all his life as a contractor and builder in
Ludington and Mason County, retiring in 1959.
Mr. Saxton was an avid fisherman.
Also surviving are two sons, Russell (Wayne) Saxton of Ludington and
William J. Saxton of Pentwater; one daughter, Mrs. Victor (Virginia) Varenhorst
of Ludington; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters,
Mrs. William (Mabel) Bacon of Custer and Mrs. John (Nellie) Reinoehl of Custer;
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine (Coppess) Saxton,
two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral for Mr. Saxton will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at
the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home, Ludington with Pastor Paul Grout officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home to receive friends form 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
