He left a will dated Apr 29, 1812, witnessed by James Marshall in whichhe left his estate to Hannah, his wife, and also a bequest to ElizabethLarkin, dau. of his wife's sister Margaret.
He was a Sergeant in Capt. John Boyles company in the Indian War.
He was at the Battle of Blue Lick. He received a military land grant,bought other land, and their plantation near Franklin, TN was a popularplace. There were eight children of this union. Their sons & grandsonsaided in building up that part of the state.
He was a Mason and at 21 he was a Capt. in Rev. War. He built a palatialhome in Lincoln Co., KY known as Fleetwood. He was one of the first toimport thoroughbred horses and English sheep into the Territory ofKentucky. After the death of John, Mary m. her cousin, Joseph Love ofWhite's Creek, but did not accompany him but remained at "Fleetwood" theMarshall estate on Gaspar Creek, Warren Co., TN. John's children went towestern TN. There were four sons, one of which was Gen. William Marshall.
