The church vestry appointed William Harris to bethe surveyor of the a new road in the forks, and William TERRELL, on thesouth side of the river, was ordered to sassist him in clearing andmaking a road. The land abetween the North Anna and the South AnnaRivers, near where they came together to for the Pamunkey, was oftenreferred to as "the Forks," William olived in the same area as Capt.Littlepage, John Blalock, Edward Garland and Thomas Carr. his land wasrepeatedly described as near the land of these neighbors, in the sameprecinct, in the processioning lists of St. paul's parish. it is believedthat he continued to live on this same land. There is no record of howmuch land he owned in St. Paul's parish, hanover Co., Va. He was inHanover Co. at the same time as Timothy and Richmond Terrell II. 3a.Lived on Pamunka, a small River passing between Richmond andFredericksburg into the Rappahannock. His voice was hard, keen and loud, and bursted forth like thevery elements with an unearthly sepulchral tone: and when irritated itoits tip, little mean and crippled devils might tremble...He was honestand respectable, but his command came to his quare, and so did others, orall dealings broke."

William Terrell lives in the part of New Kent that became Hanover Co.
He lived on the South Side of the Pamunkey River, near the junction of
the North Anna and South Anna Rivers, in an area called "the forks."
We should note that some historians believe this William (the one who
marries Susannah Waters) is in fact the William we show as RIN #1618,
the brother of Richmond Terrell. We believe that William probably
didn't stay in Virginia, but returned to England.

Joel Terrell

regarding the Terrells from Ireland... from Ray Terrell on Terrell FamilyGenealogy Forum July 25 2000.
"Don, I am not sure what you mean when yousay "Irish" Tyrrells aregalvanized english Tyrrells. My Collins defines galvanized as "toStimulate to action". I do wonder what you mean? You have read JenniferKelly's book on Richar Tyrrell, Elizabethan captain. well, he galvanizedthe English that is certain: defeated them at the Battle of Tyrrells Passin 1598. Tyrrels had moved fromIreland long before the Great Famine.Admiral Richard Tyrrell of Grange Castle held lands in Antigua prior tohis death in 1766. his memorial is in Westminster Abbey. his ancestralhome may be seen at
http://www.ils.ie/grange/gr-contact.htm. The Irish families didmaintain links with England but as with manyh who came to "conquer"Ireland they fulfill the old adage "that became more Irish than the Irishthemselves" Ray..
one record says he died before 1751 in Hanover Co. VA
the birth date 1678 makes his mother very young having him??so questionher birth date of his if it is 1678??? Joel is listed as a farmer andplantation owner.

A John D. Terrell, quoted by Emma Dicken (p.61-62), says Joel Terrell
was his Grandfather and that his Grandfather's brothers were John,
James & Timothy. To date, that is the best evidence for listing Joel
as a son of William of Hanover. Joel was born in Hanover, but moved to
King William County when he became of age. Later, that part of King
William was made into Caroline County. Joel received considerable land
from his Father. Along with his Brother-in-law, David Lewis, he also
patented land in Albemarle and Goochland.
