Note from the ancestry of George Walker Bush - President of the USA:

2192 -- John Prescott, emigrant from England to Massachusetts, is claimed to have been the same person as John Prescott, son of Ralph Prescott of Shevington in Standish Parish, co. Lancaster, but the evidence to support this claim is insufficient. Ralph Prescott is descended from several monarchs of England (and elsewhere), but these descents are not presented here.

Isaac Stearns

Isaac Stearns, probably from Nayland, Suffolk, England, came to New
England in 1630, in the ship with Gov. Winthrop, and settled in Watertown,
Mass., near Mt. Auburn. He was admitted freeman May 18, 1631, which is the
earliest date of such admissions. He was a selectman several years, and in
1647, with Mr. Biscoe, he was appointed by the selectman " to consider how
the bridge over the river shall be built, and to agree with the workman
for doing it according to their best discretion." The signature to his
will is written Sternes, and in England the name has generally been
written Sterne. The Anglo-Saxon of the name of the bird, the starling,
which appears upon the coat-of-arms of this family, is STEARN , and in
other dialects it is STERN, and also STARN, which is probably associated
with the origin of the name. The present orthography has been more
recently adopted. John Stearns, son of Isaac the emigrant ancestor,
probably was b. after the settlement of Watertown and about 1631. He was
one of the first settlers of Billerica, where his decendants have been
numerous and have been conspicuous in the annals of that town. ----

From England to Boston in Arabella 1630

From: The HarrGene Association

Resided Watertown, Massachusetts. Isaac came from the Parish of Wenthrop, Suffolk, England to America in 1630. Settled in Watertown, Massachusetts (suburb of Boston). The family name was generally spelled STEARNS. Those descendants still in England spell it STEARN. Eight children: 4 boys and 4 girls.

Early in the morning of 8 April 1630, Isaac STEARNS and family, Sir Robert STALTONSTALL and family, Rev. George PHILLIPS, Gov. WINTHROP and many others embarked at Yarmouth, England, in the good ship ARRABELLA' and arrived in Salem, Massachucetts., on the 12th of June. The ship 'JEWELL' arrived on the 13th. The ship 'AMBROSE' on the 18th. The 'TALBOT' on July 2. The passengers not being satisfied with Salem as possessing the desirable advantages for a permanent settlement soon proceeded from Salem to Charlestown and were among the first settlers of Watertown, near Mount Auburn, Massachucetts. In 1642 we find his homestall bounded on the north by land of John WARREN; west by the highway; south by the land of John BISCOE; east by Pequssett Meadow, a part of which meadow he owned.

source: STEVE The Submitter for Volume 3, Tree 5021 provided the following; information on Issacke Sterne.

On April 8, 1630 the family left Yarmouth, England aboard a ship owned by Governor and Puritan squire, John Winthrop, called "ARBELLA". They landed at Salem, Mass. on June 12, 1630 after 76 days at sea. Since tillable land was scarce, the settlers dispersed into the countryside and formed the cities of Boston, Cambridge and Watertown, to name a few. They were part of the year called "the great migration", when 840 people left England in eleven ships and settled in New England to find religious and political freedom. Unlike their counterparts the Pilgrims, who settled Plymouth, the Puritans did not wish to leave the Church of England, only to "purify" it.

Isaacke Sr. was a tailer in England, however, in America he was a "planter" and owned a farm near Watertown. In 1631 he was listed as a town officer.

Isaac and Mary also raised two children of Isaac's brother, Shubael Stearns.

The Arabella was the flagship for the Winthrop fleet of 11 ships.
