Note Frederick's birth has yet to be found. The date is a mystery: his death certificate and the 1881 & 1901 censuses suggest 1835; the 1851 & 1871 censuses suggest 1838.
Note In the 1841 Census, (HO107-613) a Frederick Danby aged 4 was living in Witham Green with John & Sarah Adcock. Silvia Elliff was also living on Witham Green some houses away
Note The only reference to his mother is the 1851 census where he is living with Silvia. He is not with living with his mother in Boston at the time of the 1841 census - see note above
Note His father is believed to be Charles Danby, the husband of Silvia's sister Anne, who was acknowledged as the father of two of Silvia's other children, Anna Maria and Thomas Henry. Frederick's marriage certificate (and the parish register entry) states his father as Frederick Charles Elliff, a farmer.

Note When John's father died in 1793, his will charged his eldest son, Thomas (O422) with bringing up John and his brothers William (O462) & Henry (O472) until they were 16 years old. John was 8 years old when his father died.
Note In the 1861 census, he appears as John Black (after his mother) and on his wife Jane's death certificate he is recorded as John Black Elliff. His assumed son William (P364) also used this alias at various times of his life.
Note John is also assumed to be the father of Thomas (P352) whose age and place of birth (Pinchbeck) as given in the census returns 1851/61/71 correlate with those of William (P364) who is likely to be John's son.
Note In the 1851 census, John is living with Elizabeth West, who is listed as his housekeeper and whom he married in 1858. In the 1861 census, he is living with Sarah Ann Leadbeater, listed as housekeeper, whom he married in 1862.
Note His burial entry states his age as 89, although his baptism and age given at his marriage in 1862 suggest that he was really 85.
