1742, Jun 14 - Evan Shelby, farmer, Prince George's County, Province of Maryland, sold 100 acres of land called Cherry Soil [or Sail], part of a tract of land called Hazard to Hugh Gilliland, farmer, Prince George's County, Province of Maryland, for 40 pounds. 1747, Nov 21 - Evan Shelby, Sr., farmer, Prince George's County, Province of Maryland, sold 50 acres of land called Bells Fort to Hugh Gilliland, Prince George's County, Province of Maryland, for 6 pounds. 1750, Aug 21 - Hugh Gilliland, farmer, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, sold 50 acre (plus mills) tract called Bealls Fort to James Gilliland, farmer, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, for 80 pounds. Recorded August 23, 1750. Deed (Frederick County): Liber B, Folio 235-237.
1750, Oct 9 - Thomas Cresap, gentleman, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, sold 100 acres part of a tract of land called Darlings Delight to William Gilliland, yeoman, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, for 85 pounds. 1752, Oct 6 - James Gilliland, farmer, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, sold both his tracts of land, Big Springs and Beals Fort to Charles Carroll, merchant, City of Annapolis, Province of Maryland, for 53 pounds, 10 shillings. 1753, Aug 18 - Thomas Gilliland, farmer, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, sold 100 acres of land called Indian Bottom, lying on the Potomack [sic] River to Nicholas Johnson, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, for 100 pounds. Recorded August 21, 1753. Deed (Frederick County): Liber E, Folio 247-248.
1754, Jan 4 - James Gilliland, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, recorded bond. Nicholas Johnson, farmer, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, was bound to James Gilliland, in penal sum of 500 pounds; condition of obligation: Nicholas Johnson was to hand over to James Gilliland, by deed, a certain parcel of land on the Potomack [sic] River known as Indian Bottom containing 100 acres. 1755, Mar 8 - James Gilliland, millwright, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, leased to Gasper Shiphart, millwright, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, land lying on the Potomack [sic] River on the east side of Gilliland's saw and grist mills. Recorded March 20, 1755. Lease (Frederick County): Liber E, Folio 685-686.
1755, Nov 17 - James Gilliland, farmer, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, sold 150 acres of land called Big Spring, a draught of the Potomack [sic] River to Adam Easter, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, for 130 pounds. Hannah Gilliland, wife of James Gilliland, acknowledged the deed. Recorded November 24, 1755. Deed (Frederick County): Liber E, Folio 922-923.
1756, Jan 31 - James Gilliland, farmer, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, sold 45¼ acres of land called Beals Fort to George Easter, Frederick County, Province of Maryland, for 30 pounds. Hannah Gilliland, wife of James Gilliland, acknowledged the deed. Recorded February 3, 1756. Deed (Frederick County): Liber E, Folio 981-983.
1770, Jun 19 - Hugh Gilliland, of Frederick County, Province of Maryland, made a petition to the Justices of Frederick County to examine evidence to prove the bounds of a tract of land called Bells Fort. A deposition of one Hanna Polke, age about 39 years, was taken saying that about 16 years ago she was in the company of a certain James Gilliland and that in her presence he stuck a large post in the ground where there now stands a stone marked with the letters BB. She also stated that this tract of land, Bells Fort, then belonged to the aforesaid James Gilliland. Deed (Frederick County): Liber N, Folio 448-450.
1800, Jul 4 - John Shields, of Green County, Tennessee, executor of the last will & testament of William Shields, Frederick County, Maryland, deceased, sold lot number 7 in Shield's Addition to Emitsburgh, Frederick County, Maryland to Margaret Gilliland, Frederick County, Maryland, for 3 pounds, 15 shillings. 1756 - Gilliland, William. 16 May 1756. To wife Mary: all my estate real and personal. Executor: wife Mary. Mentions son William. Witnesses: Thomas Prather, Alexander Beall, Moses Chapline. Proved 19 Jan 1758 by three witnesses. Pages 116-117. [From the book Frederick County Maryland Wills 1744-1794 by Donna Valley Russell] (Will Book Liber A, No. 1, 1744 – 1777 has been indexed and the only Gilliland name to be found is William's, so it appears that none of the other Gillilands made out wills.) ** Summary for Frederick County
There appears to have been four Gillilands in Frederick County in the 1750s — Hugh, James, William, and Thomas. Hugh, prior to arriving in Frederick County can be found in Prince George County. James' wife was named Hannah and William's wife was named Mary. 1777, Dec 8 - Thomas Gilliland, sadler, East Nottingham, Cecil County, State of Maryland, sold two pieces of land lying in East Nottingham, the first being about 14½ acres (about 2½ acres being in Pennsylvania) and the second about 20 acres, to Elizabeth Hamilton, Cecil County, State of Maryland, for 258 pounds, 5 shillings. Recorded April 10, 1778. Deed (Cecil County): Liber 14, Folio 246-248. [Note: This is the Thomas Gilliland listed in Chester County, Pennsylvania for East Nottingham and most likey the son of James Gilliland.]

1808, Sep 5 - Thomas Gilliland, Cecil County, State of Maryland, an orphan, age 13 years old as of March 13, 1808, was placed as an apprentice, with consent of his mother, to James McCracken, taylor, until he reached the age of 20 years.
