Calgary Jaycees Fond-Glenbow Archives (1953-1964, 1970-1972, 1977-1992) record numbers M-8373;M-8693. The Calgary Junior Chamber of Commerce was established in 1927 by W. Gordon Egbert, Dr. E.R. Upton, and T.J.Hutchings. The organization consists of people between the ages of 21 and 40 dedicated to improving their community through leadership training. One of the organization's first projects was the operation of a tourist camp from about 1929 until 1942. During the second World War the Jaycees ran a salvage campaign and also provided canteens for servicemen.

Justice W. Gordon Egbert (1893-2/9/1960) of the Supreme Court of Alberta, Canada. His body was recovered from the Elbow River, South Calgary, a few blocks from his home. No foul play suspected, footprints led from the bank to the center of the river where it was not frozen over. A taxicab driver reported dropping him off near his home before midnight. His body had been submerged except for his hand which clung to a piece of ice. [ref. NY Times]

Galdys Alma (McKelvie) Egbert (12/31/1896-3/6/1968) Prominent teacher Mrs. W. Gordon Egbert, a Calgary music teacher, is also one of the West's finest pianists. She is well-known throughout Canada as both.  Mrs. Egbert, the widow of a judge of the Supreme Court of Alberta, won a three-year scholarship to the Royal Academy of the Royal College of Music in London when she was 12. It was the first time a Canadian had won the award and she was the youngest winner.

In London she was soloist with the Royal Academy Orchestra. She studied in New York with Richard Epsteine and Ernest Hutcheson and continued to study with Mr. Hutcheson after her marriage. Declining a concert career, Mrs. Egbert established a studio and combined teaching with home-making. In 1938 Mrs. Egbert was made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. There are only 100 Fellows in the world; a new one is chosen only when one dies. She is entitled to the initials FRAM. Mrs. Egbert has only a limited number of students, but these take up a great deal of her time. She is an officer of both the Calgary Allied Arts Council and the Philharmonic Society. Some of her former students are Jean Gilbert, solo pianist with the Royal Ballet; Sandra Munn, Carlina Carr, and Mark Jablonski.

Mrs. Egbert has six grandchildren. Her daughter, Wendy (Mrs. Peter Swann) has two grandchildren. Her son, Bill, has four. Also see article p. 23 "My Golden West" spring, 1968.
