Hannah Harrison born in Westmoreland County, VA. She was the daughter of William Harrison and Elizabeth Demourvel.
I am trying to find out if the son, John A. mentioned in the will of John of Smith Co. d. 1830
was the John Armistead who came to Oglethorpe Co. GA before 1800 and was
married to Keziah Anderson who died about 1817 in GA.
Some say he was son of your John of Smith Co. but can find no proof.

This will was contested.
Upon appeal was upheld and finally recorded 6th May 1824
(contains a great deal of info)
Married to Frances Anderson b. c.1744
Her will 29th March 1829 proved 23rd Jan 1832
Identify's herself as "Fanny" Anderson relic of William Armistead.
"At her residence in the County of Cumberland on the 20th inst(1832)after a short illness
Mrs Frances Armistead died in the 88th year of her age - she was a women of a strong mind and industry"

According to them, William was son of John Armistead and Hannah Harrison.
The last name of Frances was not known.
On page 125:

Sarah is mentioned in the will (8th September 1744) of Hannah Damouvel her gt.grandmother.
She was bequeathed one pide cow.
Samuel Damouvel her gt.grandfather was French by birth.
He was naturalised on 24th April 1712.
Sarah is also mentioned in her father's will 21st October 1768 recorded 29th March 1769,
in which he gives to Sarah and her husband William Russell, land including his plantation
located at Snow Quarter Branch, situated in the parish of Southam, Cumberland County.

I have a William Armistead Russell who married Nancy Anderson and
had two children.
John was one of them but I do not have my notes handy.
William was born in Buckingham VA on 11-8-1814 and
Nancy was born 4-4-1813 in Wilson County, TN. and they were
married 10-27-1837 according to an old family Bible, but no parents are listed for either.
I was assuming that Armistead was William's mothers maiden name???

Thanks John, there is still something wrong with your information on Nancy Armistead, and I won't be able to prove the error until I track down and analyze the primary documents again. What is the primary source that says Nancy Armistead married a William Walton? What is the proof? I have catalogued and accounted for all the William Waltons in this geographic region and none are miscellaneous. It appears to me that someone has created an error that is being perpetuated.
Nancy Armistead married Thomas Walton Jr., which is my wife's direct lineage. The family Bible of William Walton (1782-1851) states that his father, Thomas Walton Jr. died on Nov. 21, 1815 and his mother Nancy (Armistead) Walton died on Nov. 22, 1810. They died at Bent Creek, which was then in Buckingham County but now in Appomattox County.
Children of Thomas and Nancy (Armistead) Walton Jr. were:
1. Phoebe Walton was born circa 1779 and died on Dec. 19, 1852 in Lynchburg. She married Samuel Bransford (1778-1837), son of John and Judith (Amonet) Bransford. Samuel served as postmaster at Cartersville, Cumberland County, Virginia from January 1801 to October 1802. He later moved his family to Lynchburg where he established The Lynchburg Press.
2. Mary "Polly" Walton was born circa 1781 and died about 1814. She possibly married John Harris Jr., son of John and Mary (Duiguid) Harris Sr. They lived near Bent Creek, Appomattox County.
3. Captain William Walton was born on Sept. 18, 1782 in Cumberland County and died on Dec. 18, 1851 at Bent Creek. He married Elizabeth White Chick, daughter of Col. William and Elizabeth Chick.
4. Frances Walton was born circa 1786 in Cumberland County, and died during the 1870s in Appomattox County. Frances married John Scruggs who died during the 1830s.
They had at least these children:
(a) Thomas Walton Scruggs was born in 1806, married Elizabeth P. North on April 29, 1858.
(b) Nancy Scruggs was born in 1807 and probably did not marry.
(c) Martha Scruggs was born in 1813. She and sister Nancy were living with their mother when the 1870 census was taken in Appomattox County.
(d) William A. Scruggs was born in 1815.
(e) Samuel A. Scruggs was born circa 1826.

I don't believe there is any such Will nor settlement of estate records for a William Walton who allegedly married Nancy Armistead.
The VG is in error.
I want to see the primary evidence. What County courthouse, what Will Book and page number?
I will believe it when it is shown to me, rather than continuing to perpetuate errors from a secondary source.
My evidence is from a Bible record,
"Nancy Walton wife of Thomas Walton departed this life the 22nd November in the year of our Lord 1810."
I have carefully studied the personal property tax records, the land tax records, censuses, old newspapers, private papers, etc. for collaborating evidence.
My wife, nee Walton, is a direct descendant of Nancy Armistead who married Thomas Walton Jr.
