Breslau

Dearest Sister:

I am writing to tell you, that at this time, I have started my travels, in Breslau, the young city in the province of Schlesien, in the Kingdom Prussia in the German Reich.

I have made myself free in September, and on October 21, 1908 I left home; after borrowing 30 Kronen. I am working in a factory for a salary of 12 marks = 14 kronen, 40 zoll. As you can see, it is worse than in Vienna, where I had at least 20 kronen minimum salary. Then right away I had to get a card from the mason to being able to work, it costs 3.15 Marks which they wanted immediately. First I did not do well, but now my situation is somewhat better. I am planning to spend the winter here, and in spring I will go to Berlin and Hamburg. Maybe I will be lucky and fate will let me go over to the U.S. Please write to let me know how you are doing. I'm also greeting the family of Ferdinand and will wish you a happy X-mass and a Happy New Year. Hopefully, it will be a better year for you and me. Also take a greeting from the parents of my Mizzy Ozernetschka. I am greeting you most kindly and hope to see you soon -hoping-. My address is the following:

Warniek Leopold

c/o Mrs. Shiek in Breslau

A pictured card will follow, once we have your exact address. We are looking forward to your letter with the greatest joy.
