Rev. Sampson J. English (1790-1866) of Macon Co., Georgia

Sampson J. English was minister of old Red Hill Prim Baptist Church. Born 1790 in North Carolina he migrated to Washington Co., Georgia by Dec 1810. Bought 400 Acres there in 1818, bought 400 Acres in 1821 Hancock. In 1822 he moved to Houston (now Crawford) County and united with the Union Baptist Church; was ordained to the Ministry 20 Feb 1830. Moved to Marion (now Macon) Co in 1831 and bought Land on Camp Creek. Became pastor of Hepzibah Baptist Church, also known as Red Hill, until 1863. Also served Poplar Springs Baptist Church east of Montezuma and moved it to Traveler's Rest in 1838. Married 1st wife (unknown) one son, born in 1810; married 2nd, Frances Hardison b in GA or NC in 1791, d in Macon Co after 1870. They had twelve children.

John English was a farmer and cooper in Early Co GA. brother of Sampson, was born in North Carolina or Georgia. Likely present in Washington/Hancock counties c.1810 and thought to have migrated to Marion Co GA by 1822 before coming to Early Co GA by 1850. Marriage to Dearderuy (Deida) 1815. Children are living and raising families in Alabama counties; Pike, Bullock, Butler and surrounding area.

John J.'Jack' English was born in Washington Co GA in 1810 the firstborn son of Rev. Sampson J. English and mother (unknown). He married in Houston Co in 1829 to Lavinia Wilkins b 1814 GA, moved to Houston (now Crawford) County by 1830. Likely moved to Marion (now Macon) Co in 1831 when his father did; he migrated by 1843 to Alabama, bought land in Coffee Co AL in 1848 where the family would remain to work the "English Farm". Wife Lavinia died Feb 1850 in Coffee county at age 36 after being ill for 6 days leaving John to raise thier children, he did not remarry.
