Mrs. Sabina Robinson15 July 1887"Mrs. Sabina Robinson, for many years a resident of Essex County, died on Saturday, the 2nd instant, at the advanced age of 78. Mrs. Robinson was born in Tedford, Lincolnshire, England on January 5th, 1809. In 1829, she was married to George Smith, and in 1831 emigrated with her husband to Canada. They first settled in Toronto, living there at the time of the cholera epidemic in 1833. Here Mrs. Robinson buried her father, who died from the disease in her residence, and nursed and helped many other victims of the great plague. After remaining in Toronto about three years, Mrs. Robinson came west with her husband as far as Windsor, where she remained until her husband's death in March 1836. Being left with three small children to provide for, Mrs. Robinson opened a private day school in Windsor, there being no school of any kind in the place at that time, and carried it on successfully for six months or more. In December 1836, she married her late husband, James Robinson, and, in 1842 they left Windsor to settle on a new farm in the township of Maidstone, near Essex Centre, where Mrs. Robinson for many years experienced the hardships and privations of pioneer life. Her husband died on July 15th, 1871, and Mrs. Robinsonhas since resided with her son, Frederick, of Essex Centre. Mrs. Robinson had, by her second marriage, a family of six sons and two daughters all but one of whom survive her. She leaves in all six sons and four daughters to mourn her loss. The funeral took place o Sunday, the 3rd instant. Note: Sabina Robinson married James R. Robinson on 15 December 1836; their children were William B.(married Elizabeth Dring), Elizabeth (married Charles Little), James, Frederick, John, Phoebe (married Walter Taylor), Joseph, and Thomas.
