Lucy Turner Goff (181) was born 21 September 1836, a daughter of Joshua
G. Goff (56) and Deborah Wilkinson
(140).
In 1858, Lucy married Stephen Bayard (187).
Stephen was born 21 September 1830, a son of George A. Bayard
(223).
Stephen is descended from Colonel Stephen
Bayard (1298) who, along with Col Isaac Craig, was
the first property owner in Pittsburgh. They bought the three
acres of land between Fort Pitt and the Allegheny River. On this
land, they erected a wind mill, to grind grain for a distillery
and for the inhabitants of the town of Pittsburgh. Eventually,
they also owned the site of Fort Pitt, itself, where Isaac Craig
and his family lived in the blockhouse. Elizabeth, on the Allegheny
River, was named for Elizabeth Mackay(1299), wife of Colonel
Bayard and daughter of the Commandant of Fort Pitt.
Lucy and Stephen together had four children:
Mamie (188), Stephen, II (189), Bertha
(190), and Lillian (191).
Lucy copied the "History of J.G.Goff's
Family", written by her father, for several of her cousins.
Stephen died 18 September 1898
at his home at Elrod, near McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
His obituary, in the Pittsburgh Press for 20 September
1898 reads:
Stephen Bayard, a member of one
of the oldest families of Pittsburgh, died at his late residence,
Elrod, near McKessport, Saturday. He was born in this city 68
years ago and was a son of the late George A. Bayard, one of
Pittsburgh's earliest business men , and the original owner of

Following Stephen's death, Lucy
