My Guld family
history begins with the arrival of Francis
Joseph Guld (165) and his wife Barbara
Garatva (166) in the early 1900s along with their children,
Ana and Josef. Barbara arrived in New York on 30 September 1906
along with Anna and Joseph on the ship Blucher out of
Hamberg (although her passport says she left from Bremen). Francis
is not on the ship manifest, and apparently did not arrive at
the same time. Barbara, Anna and Joseph
entered the United States through Ellis Island under the name
'Gult.' Francis and Barabara along with Anna and Joseph eventually
ended up in the Pittsburgh area where they lived variously in
Swissvale, Rankin and Braddock. Francis had a brother, Antun,
a sister, Appalona, and a sister, Eva, all of whom reportedly
also came to the US. |
