Scanned Documents including Midwifery booklet 1938

MIDWIFERY

Picture of the cover of a small booklet published in 1938 for use by midwives.  This booklet was found with the tools pictured below and I was told by my grandmother that the tools below were used by Bessie Blair FLEEK/FLICK and also by Bessie's mother, Susan Jane UMSTOT, who also acted as a midwife.
To the right are the tools used by my g-grandmother when she performed the duties of a midwife.  They were in a small leather carrying case.  There was also a reddish-colored rubbery item (thing??) that reminded me of a super thick rubber band, or perhaps the rubber-like piece you might see on a stethoscope.  Over the many years, it became brittle and broke into pieces.  It may have been used to tie off the umbilical cord, or maybe it was used as a tourniquet to stop bleeding.  Or perhaps it really was part of a stethoscope...but if so, the rest of it was missing.
