Post Office to represent Money Order Office and Savings Bank.

LLANBADOC

LLANBADOC (or Llanbaddock) is a parish and village on the west bank of the river Usk, and nearly opposite the town of Usk, half a mile west-south-west from Usk railway station and 7 miles east from Pontypool, in the Southern division of the county, hundred, petty sessional division and county court district of Usk, union of Pontypool, rural deanery of Usk, archdeaconry of Monmouth and diocese of Llandaff.

The church of St. Madoc is an ancient building of stone, in the Gothic style, consisting of chancel, nave, north aisle, south porch and an embattled western tower containing 2 bells: there are 140 sittings. The register of baptisms dates from the year 1710, marriages, 1711, and burials, 1728.

The living is a vicarage, net yearly value �68, in the gift of H. S. Gustard esq., and held since 1883 by the Rev. George Micaiah Williams, of Queen's College, Oxford, who is also rector of and resides at Llanllowell.

The principal seats are Cefn Ila, of Henry William Hartmann esq. ; Helmaen, of the Rev. Wilmer Mackett Willett, and Twyn Bell, of Mrs. Edward Longworth Lister.

The Duke of Beaufort is lord of the manor and Mrs. E. L. Lister, Edward Williams esq. of Llan Usk, and Edward Pritchard Martin esq. of Dowlais are the principal landowners.

The soil is silurian; subsoil, gravel and white clay. The chief crops are wheat, barley and oats. The area is 3,421 acres of land and 39 of water; rateable value, �3,989; the population in 1891 was 386.
