Mary
Farmer McDermott, wife of Luke McDermott of this city, died at the home
of her sister, Mrs. Charles Carpenter of Central Square Tuesday morning
after an illness of several months. She was 46 years of age.
Mrs.
McDermott was born in the town of Hounsfield, a daughter of the late
James and Amelia Farmer. She attended Watertown schools and graduated
from Watertown High school. For several years after her graduation she
taught in the schools of the city, particularly at Lamon street and
Hamilton street schools.
After
her marriage to Luke McDermott in this city, about 20 years ago, Mrs.
McDermott left the teaching profession only to do substitute work from
time to time. They made their home on a farm about a mile from Sackets
Harbor.
Last
fall Mrs. McDermott left the farm because of her illness to come to
Watertown to live with her sister, Mrs. Irene Dundon, 902 Franklin
street. She went to Central Square to visit Mrs. Carpenter on her farm
home just outside the village July 1.
Surviving
are her husband, Luke McDermott, at present employed by the state
highway department at Rodman; two brothers, Dr. F. W. Farmer of this
city, and Frank Farmer of Massena, and two sisters, Mrs. Charles
Carpenter of Central Square and Mrs. Irene Dundon of this city.
Funeral
services will be held from the Holy Family church, of which Mrs.
McDermott was a member, Thursday morning at 9. Burial will be made in
Glenwood.
