Fawn Montgomery Co Kansas

Gen G. B. Ramm honored sir I wrote
you some time ago and received an
answer written Nov 2 stateing that I
would have to get the affadavit of
one or more men that was in Prison
with me and that they would have
to swear that they seen me receive
the sabre wound in my right leg
now I will state to you that it would
be impossible for a man to see me
receive the wound as it was done at 3oclock
in the morning
and a dark morning on the 19th day of
January 1865 when we tryed to break
out of the Prison and Capt Hanchette
that got up the break was taken out
of the Prison and shot to death and
one of the guards that we captured
whitch I had the honor to help capture

2 of them one of whitch claimed
that he wounded one of the Yanks
and the Rebs tryed to find the man
that was wounded and that failed to
find the wounded man but a reb Major
wounded me with his saber at the
Prison door it would have been sure
death to me if the rebs had found
out that I had been wounded and
there was only one man in the Prison
that knew that I was wounded he was
my comrad and he dressed my wound
in the night time so that no person
would find it out that mans name
name was Martin Becker he belonged
to a Wisconsin Regt the number of
his Regt I never knew and I learned
some time ago that he Becker died
in Colorado 12 years ago and I cannot
get his affadavit I would refer you to
Hon J. W. Rush of Larned Kansas
who was a prisoner with me and
one of the men that helped to
capture the guards I made an
affadavit and it was sent up to
your office some time ago and
it stated the facts in my case
of receivein the sabre wound
in my right leg while a Prisoner
of War at Cahaba Prison Alabama
I am an old man and not able to do
a quarter days work and any dayly
labor is all I have to live on and I
hope you will take my case in
consideation and give me a
generous increase whitch I am
certainly entitled to I have two
gun shot wounds whitch I received
in the servise of my Country but
the gun shot wounds have never
injured my health but I have
been lame in my right leg ever
since I received the wound and
the older I get the lameness

--- so please give my case a
--- conderation and wirte
--t you can do in the
--s please answer me
--tter as soon as convenient
--- yours Respt
