Case of David H Savage, No. 291,007

On this 14 day of October, 1884 at Stockport, county of Morgan, state of Ohio, before me, John A Carr, a special examiner of the Bureau of Pensions, personally appeared Jesse M McKibben, who, being, by me first duly sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this special examination of aforesaid claim for pension, deposes and says:

Q. Please state your age, occupation, postoffice address, military service, and relationship to claimant

A. I am 42; farmer; Stockport, Morgan Co., Ohio; was private Co F 77th Ohio Vols; not related.

Q. When did you form the acquaintance of Mr. Savage?

A. We have lived close together ever since we were boys.

Q. What cause did he ever complain of before he enlisted?

A. I never knew of any.

Q. In the service what was his condition?

A. After we were in teh service a short time, his eyes were pretty bad.

Q. What was the matter with his eyes?

A. The understanding I had was that he took cold after having the measles at Camp Tupper, near Marietta, Ohio. I know he had measles.

Q. How soon after he had measles did his eyes get sore?

A. He done very little duty afterward, and I don't think his eyes ever got well after he had measles.

Q. In what way did they seem affected?

A. They were sore, weak; running right smart.

Q. How long did they continue that way?

A. They were that way until he was discharged; as I now recollect he was not with the regiment when he was discharged.

Q. Why was he discharged?

A. I dont know the cause, or where he was.

Q. Do you know of any other cause from which he suffered in service?

A. No sir

Q. Have you known of any other ailment since discharge?

A. No sir, nothing but his eyes.

Q. What has been the condition of this eyes since his discharge?

A. I am not able to say, as I have not seen him very often.
