A native of Roseville has started his sixth year as a vital cog in the United Fund of Zanesville and Muskingum County. In 1961 Paul L Maddox, vice president of First National Bank, served as campaign chairman. Then from 1963 through 1965 he was the "money man," handling the duties of treasurer. This year he is serving as president, succeeding Daniel Van Voorhis. Maddox, 47, does not limit his civic activity to the United Fund. An active church member, he also serves as treasurer of the Muskingum County Foundation for Infantile Paralysis and in 1856 se4rved as Chariman of the public employees division of the annual Red Cross fund campaign. Then, too, he is affiliated with numerous other organizations. Associated with the banking business singe October of 1936 when he became a member of First National's bookkepping department. Maddox was born March 22, 1918 in Roseville, a son of Rollie E and Mary Maddox. He has a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Glaser and two brothers, John and William Maddox, all living in Cleveland. Through the first six grades, Maddox attended school in Roseville. Then from the seventh through graduation from Zanesville High School in 1935, he went to school here. After a year in Meredith Business College, he took a job with First National. Except for armed forces services from early 1943 to November of 1945, he has been there ever since. Much of his service duty was in the finance offices of the Eighth Air Force in England. After being in the bookeeping department, Maddox was in the savings, commercial, and load departments before becoming an officer. From assistant cashier, he was made vice president. A member of First Methodist Church, Maddox has been treasureer the past five years and also is a member of the Official Board. He also served as Sunday School superintendent a long time. Maddox is a member of Anuty Lodge, Zanesville Chapter, Zanesville Council, Cyrene Commandery, Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem, all Masonic affiliated organizations. He also belongs to the Sertoma Club. An avid warm weather angler, Maddox also like sports of all kings. He does most of his fishing in the river and farm ponds. It doesn't matter to him whether he catches anything. he just likes to be comfortable while he's trying. Although he would like to try ice fishing once, Maddox has never gotten around to it. He admits it might be due to cold weather which would make it difficult to be comfortable. Once a week Maddox bowls with his church team. Although he doesn't consider himself an expert, he has a 165 average. Mr. and Mrs. Maddox live at 339 Seborn avenue. One of their five children, daughter Vickie Lee, is still at home. Mrs. Hugh Longley, Mrs. Maddox's mother, who is 85, also is at the home. Although Mrs. Maddox (the former Velma Longley) graduated from Zanesville Hish School just a year after Mr. Maddox, they didn't meet until afterward and were married Jan 12, 1941. They observed their silver anniversary this month. They have two other daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Lou) Ross, who lives in Newark and Mrs Ralph (Carol) Lee, who lives in south Zanesville. Twin sons, Rob and Bill are both married and live here. Bob is associated with Bellows-Valdair Company, Bill has two children, a boy and a girl, and is employed by Stanley Home Products, Inc. Vickie Lee, 12, is a seventh grader at Grover Cleveland Junior High School.

Mrs. Winifred Inman
Crooksville - Mrs. Winifred Inman, 87, of Deavertown, died at 7:05 p.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Violet Shipley at Deavertown after a two year illness. She was born at Shawnee Sept 24, 1874, a daughter of Albert and Mary Edgell Savage and was a member of the Deavertown Methodist Church many years. Surviving are four other daughters, Mrs. Grace Wheeler of McConnelsville, Mrs. Lillian Tysinger of Gaysport, Mrs. Edna Thomas of Croosville Route 1 and Mrs. Annabell Williams of Deavertown; four sons, Walter, Albert, and John, all of Deavertown and Earl at Dayton; 74 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mae Fisk of Columbus. Her husband, Stephen, three children, five brothers and a sister preceeded her in death. The body will be taken from the Fred L. Cannon Funeral Home to the Lee Shipley residence in Deavertwon where friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday until funeral services are held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Deavertown Methodist Church. The Rev. Cary Wilson of Newark will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Dale Dunbar and interment will follow in the church cemetery.
