Charles Edgar Stanbery: June 8, 1923 - May 8, 2003
Charles Edgar Stanbery, age 79, of Belford Street, Caldwell, Ohio,
died Thursday morning (5/8/2003) at his residence. He was born
6/8/1923 at Deavertown, Ohio, a son of the late Robert & Lillian
Inman Stanbery. He was a retired die setter for the former Gould
Company Plant at Caldwell; a WWII Army/Air Corp Veteran and a member
of the Middleburg United Methosdist Church. He was a life member of
Caldwell Post #4721 VFW and Belle Valley Post #641 American Legion.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Betty
June Clark Stanbery, who died 4/13/2002; 2 sons Harvey Eugene &
Charles Edgar Stanbery. Surviving are 1 son Robert A. Stanbery of
Caldwell, Ohio; 3 daughters Nancy (Morgan) Stover of Belpre, Ohio,
Sandra (James) Rayner of Caldwell, Ohio and Janice (Bill) Rayner of
Cumberland, Ohio; 1 brother Raymond Stanbery of South Zanesville,
Ohio; 3 sisters Roberta Skeenes of Zanesville, Ohio, Hattie Clark and
Jean Eveland of Crooksville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call
Saturday (5/10/2003) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at McVay-Perkins
Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, Ohio where services will be
held on Sunday (5/12/2003) at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jim Garrett
officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery in Caldwell,
Ohio. Caldwell Post #4721 VFW and Belle Valley Post #641 will
conduct military graveside services.

CROOKSVILLE - Ned Watts, 97, of Crooksville, died at 10:10 p.m.
Friday, June 10, 2005, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in
Zanesville. He was born Aug. 9, 1907, in Perry County, the son
of the late Edward and Ellen Baker Watts. In his early years, Mr.
Watts worked at Hull Pottery in Crooksville. He graduated from
Crooksville High School and had also worked at Timken Roller Bearing
in Canton. He was a deputy auditor for the State of Ohio before
becoming Perry County Clerk of Courts, where he served for 50 years.
Ned was a World War II veteran from 1942 to 1945 and was involved in
the Normandy invasion. He was a member Crooksville American Legion
Basil Grimes Post 222 and the Crooksville VFW Post 9090, where he was
the bugler who played "Taps" for military funerals for close to 90
years. He was a member of the Crooksville Masonic Lodge, member of
the Gideons International and a member of Crooksville First United
Methodist Church. He was an honorary member of the Perry County Bar
Association, a member of the Hull Pottery Association, and was the
honorary bell-ringer for the Perry County Bicentennial celebration
in 2003. Mr. Watts was awarded several medals of honor for his World
War II service in June 2003, including European-African Middle
Eastern Theater Ribbon with five Battle Participation Stars and one
Bronze Arrowhead (Normandy), Good Conduct Medal, American Theater
Ribbon Normandy Invasion 50th Anniversary Medal. He was also
presented the first "Key to the City of Crooksville" by the late
Mayor Doug Cannon for 51 years of community service in 1997. He is
survived by his wife of 53 years, Edith Lenora Gibson Watts; three
children, Neddena (Mike) Young of Zanesville, Karla (Craig) Bankes of
Zanesville and Brian Watts of Cambridge; four grandsons, Garrett
Young, Jordan Young, Brandon Bankes and Braden Bankes; two nieces,
Shirley (Buck) Harris of Crooksville and Barbara (Galen) Pittman of
Austin, Texas; one nephew, Wally Cannon of San Diego, Calif.; and
several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Fred Watts Cannon;
another sister, Mary Francis Watts; one niece, Carolyn Cannon; and
one nephew, Alan Cannon. Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. today,
June 16, at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 5765 Gladstone
Drive, White Cottage. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Friday, June 17, 2005, at Crooksville First United Methodist Church,
102 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville, where friends may call from 10 to
11 a.m. with the Rev. Nancy Raypholtz officiating. Burial will take
place in Crooksville Cemetery, where Crooksville Legion will conduct
military services. Memorial contributions may be made to Crooksville
First United Methodist Church.
